Reflexology is a non-invasive complementary therapy in which pressure is applied by the therapist to reflex points on the feet that correspond directly to parts of the body. The stimulation of these reflex points unblocks the energy pathways in the body by releasing toxins and improving the circulation, thus restoring the body’s equilibrium. It induces a deep state of relaxation which in turn stimulates the natural healing process within the body.
Reflexology dates back several thousand years: its origins have been traces from inscriptions found in a physician’s tomb in Anciant Egypt. This form of healing then spread from Egypt, via the Roman Empire, to India, China and North America. In 1930s, Eunice Ingham, a therapist in the US, pioneered the technique as it is widely used today across the world. The many benefits of reflexology are widely recognised by the medical profession; GPs, medical centers, clinics use reflexology routinely alongside conventional medical practice.
How is a Reflexology session ? My reflexology sessions begin with a systematic approach. Often a course of treatment is recommended which may vary in length depending on the health issues being adressed and the individual's body's response. Even though the reflexology session is addressing health issues, I never underestimate the power of relaxation, and always incorporate a foot massage at the end.
Although a client will detect a noticeable effect after just one session. A course of 5-10 treatments is highly recommended to remedy any pre-existing disorders and to help restore the body’s natural balance.
